Inner Eye Illumination

Matthew 6:22-23 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 6 in context

Scripture Focus

22The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
Matthew 6:22-23

Biblical Context

The eye is the lamp of the body; when the eye is single, the whole body is full of light. If the eye is evil, the body is full of darkness.

Neville's Inner Vision

Matthew 6:22-23 is a teaching about consciousness rather than mere eyesight. The 'eye' represents your current state of awareness through which life is seen and experienced. A single, undivided eye—an unshakable alignment with the good you desire—lets light flood the entire being; your thoughts, choices, and relationships reflect clarity, integrity, and harmony. When the eye is corrupted by fear, judgment, or attachment, light retreats, and darkness fills your world—your sense of reality becomes strained, scattered, and misperceived. The line 'If the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!' cautions you that a life imagined as good can still be corrupted by a consciousness pointed away from the One Life. To shift you must revise beliefs from their root and assume the state of light. Begin with I AM, the eternal lamp within, and cultivate a single focus on your desired good. With consistent inner attention, you reveal light in every area of your life.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Close your eyes, breathe, and assume the state, 'I AM the light of my body; my eye is single.' Repeat this, feel-it-real, and notice the world around you reflecting your inner illumination.
