Secret Almsgiving: The Inner Reward
Matthew 6:1-4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Matthew 6 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Keep almsgiving private; do not seek human praise. The reward comes from your heavenly Father for the secret act.
Neville's Inner Vision
Matthew 6:1-4 is not a rule about right behavior alone, but a map of your inner economy. When you give, you are not dispensing coins but shifting energy within your consciousness from a lesser sense of abundance to a greater. The 'Father which seeth in secret' is the I AM within you, the awareness that notices its own movements. The trumpet-blowing hypocrites show the ego's craving for glory; their reward is the outward applause, which vanishes as you awaken. Therefore, let almsgiving arise from a quiet center where no one is told of its doing. Let the left hand forget what the right hand does, not in denial but in inner harmony: your generosity becomes effortless and invisible to the outward gaze, yet seen by the One who sees in secret. When motive rests in the truth that you are already abundant in consciousness, the alms become an outward sign of your inner alignment, and the reward appears openly as peace, opportunity, and steadfastness in your life.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: In a moment of stillness, assume you are the kind person who gives in secret; picture a specific act and feel the quiet joy of the unseen reward, as if the Father within approves.
