Matthew 16:18 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 16 in context

Scripture Focus

18And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:18

Biblical Context

Peter is named the rock and the church is founded in this moment of consciousness. The gates of death cannot prevail against the inner habitation of awareness.

Neville's Inner Vision

Peter represents a fixed state of consciousness within you, the rock. The I AM, the inner rock, is the foundation upon which your entire life and the church of your being are built. The gates of hell symbolize fear, doubt, and negation; when you acknowledge and remain in this rock of awareness, those gates lose their power. The promise that nothing shall prevail is an invitation to dwell in the I AM, letting imagination and presence fashion a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Your world manifests from this inner foundation, as you treat awareness as the one reality and act from the sense of being in God. He is not outside you but the very I AM that you identify as.

Practice This Now

Assume the state: I AM. Feel this inner rock steady; if fear arises, revise by affirming: 'I am the rock on which my church of consciousness stands,' dwelling in that awareness for several minutes.
