Biblical Context
Joel 1:5 speaks to those overwhelmed by ceremonial pleasures, urging them to wake up as the external wine runs dry. It marks a turning point where inner conditions govern perception.
Neville's Inner Vision
In Neville's terms, the drunkards are states of consciousness that seek fulfillment through external stimulation. The 'new wine' is a fresh outpouring of the divine within, a present moment fullness that cannot sustain itself if your awareness remains tethered to objects. When the wine is cut off from your mouth, it is not punishment but a sign that your old mode of drinking—looking outward for supply—has exhausted itself. The call to awaken is a call to invert your identity: you are not the thirsty body but the I AM behind every sensation. Judgment becomes inner self-correction, a revision of belief that you lack what you already are. If you imagine the inner wine streaming again, you align with the reality that your world reflects your inner state. The new wine is always seeking expression in your consciousness; your job is to assume it is yours now, feel its warmth, and dwell there until the old craving fades. Thus the cut off moment becomes the doorway into a richer self-subsistence.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly, close your eyes, and revise by feeling the inner wine flowing. Declare, I AM the I AM; this abundance is mine now, and I drink from within.
