Titus 2:6 exhorts young men to cultivate a sober mind, implying inner discipline as the foundation for truthful action and discernment.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider 'young men' as a stage of consciousness, not a crowd in a crowd. 'Be sober minded' is a command to align with the I AM that you are. When I say I AM, you do not seek to force obedience; you awaken a state in which the mind is undisturbed by passion and noise. In this state, impressions come and go, but the seeing self remains constant. Your outer life will follow the inner assumption: a clear, discerning mind becomes the soil for wise actions. Practice is simple: enter a moment and inhabit the feeling of sobriety and steadiness; let thoughts pass like boats on a calm sea, unthreatened by storms. The more you dwell in that inner I AM, the more your world reflects that sobriety. The exhortation to be sober-minded is not a rule but a re-figuring of self — a return to the consciousness that you are the sovereign observer who creates by agreement with what you imagine.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit for a few minutes and assume the state of a sober mind; repeat, I AM the calm, discerning observer.
