Biblical Context
The verse portrays the speaker being found by watchmen, wounded, and having her veil removed. She then begs others to tell her beloved that she is sick with love.
Neville's Inner Vision
Notice how the outer city with its watchmen and veiling walls stands for your mental guards and mistaken separations. The act of being found and wounded is the sense of self that has clung to limitation in order to protect itself. When the veil is removed, you do not discover a new person but reveal the I AM that has always been here, the Presence that the beloved represents. The cry, 'I am sick of love,' is not longing for another, but the deep urge of consciousness to awaken to unity. In Neville's language, the beloved is your own awareness, the inner reality unchanged by appearances. The watchmen and keepers symbolize thoughts that say 'not yet' or 'too late,' yet the moment you refuse those thoughts and return to I AM, the barrier dissolves. Your silent invitation to the inner sanctum sets the condition for manifestation: you are already where you seek to be; you are the one who loves and is loved, and the beloved responds in proportion to your awareness.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume you are already one with the Beloved within; feel the presence now, and let any sense of separation dissolve as you rest in that awareness. Tell your inner self, 'I am united with You' and listen for the shift in feeling.
