Biblical Context
Psalm 99:1-2 presents God's kingship as an inner rule within consciousness, where the I AM reigns and outer disturbances yield to that divine authority.
Neville's Inner Vision
I read Psalm 99:1-2 as a declaration that the LORD is the I AM within me, sovereign in the chamber of my awareness. The phrase 'let the people tremble' points to the old beliefs and fears that shake when truth arises; yet the throne remains unshaken. When I picture the LORD sitting between the cherubim, I understand the cherubim as the guardians of the innermost sanctuary—the mind and heart—through which the divine presence continually moves. 'Let the earth be moved' is not a threat but a cue that outer appearances obey the inner posture of kingship. Zion signifies my inner sacred domain, a consciousness where God is great and exalted above every petty claim. As I dwell there, every sensational thought and anxious image loses its grip, for the sovereign I AM now governs the field of experience. The practice is to keep this sense of rule steady until it colors feeling, perception, and life itself, transforming tremors into a steady, kingly life within.
Practice This Now
Practice: quiet your mind and declare, 'I am the I AM reigning in me now,' imagining a throne settling into your chest. Then revise any fear-based thought by affirming the inner king governs every sensation and event.
