Biblical Context
Psalm 96 invites all beings to praise the Lord and declare His glory, culminating in the Lord’s righteous judgment and the joy of holiness.
Neville's Inner Vision
All of the verses are addressed to your inner state. When you hear 'sing a new song' you are being invited to renew the state of consciousness you inhabit. The 'earth' and the 'heathen' are not others but the thoughts and beliefs that crowd your mind. The statement 'the Lord reigns' is your realization that the I AM within governs your inner world; all judgments and truths arise from that central awareness. To worship in the 'beauty of holiness' is to dwell in clean desire and steady feeling; to 'fear before Him' is to release resistance to the truth you have chosen. The line about idols dissolves as you recognize that any lack or separation is a counterfeit of your one true state. When you declare that the world is established and that you shall be judged righteously, you are rehearsing the law of your appointed order—the inner decree that makes the outer orderly. Your atmosphere becomes joyful and your environment reflects the ruling presence you have assumed. The offering and worship speak of where you invest attention; give glory and strength to the I AM by centering your consciousness in the reign that is yours.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes, and in imagination declare: I AM reigns in my inner world; I sing a new song and the feeling of that reign fills me. Maintain that feeling for a few minutes and notice how thoughts, moods, and circumstances begin to align with the state.
