Biblical Context
Psalm 9:3 speaks of enemies turning back and falling in the presence of God, symbolizing inner obstacles dissolving when we align with divine awareness. It hints that confidence and protection arise from the I AM.
Neville's Inner Vision
From the Neville viewpoint, the 'enemies' are not outsiders but restless states within—fear, lack, doubt, and the stubborn belief in separation. 'Thy presence' is the awareness I AM, the living conviction that I am consciousness itself. When I turn my mind to that Presence and dwell there, the imagined adversaries lose their bite; they turn back and pass away as if driven from the field by a bright light. This is not a riot of force but a quiet revision of reality through imagination. The scene described in the psalm becomes an inner event: I refuse to negotiate with separation, and I assume the state of God-aware being until it saturates every thought, word, and feeling. In that state, old patterns dissolve and the sense of collision evaporates. What remains is the certainty that my life is guided by Providence, that defenses are nothing compared to the truth of I AM. The 'enemies' fall because I am established in the Presence, and the Presence stands forth as my only reality.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume the I AM is present now; imagine a circle of Presence radiating out and turning every fear or obstacle away. Let the sense of separation dissolve until you feel the inner victory as real.
