Read Psalms 89 in context

Scripture Focus

27Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.
28My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.
29His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
Psalms 89:27-29

Biblical Context

The psalm promises an inner elevation: a firstborn status above earthly kings, guaranteed mercy and covenant, and a throne that endures forever.

Neville's Inner Vision

God's inward decree makes the soul a firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth—not in competition with them, but as a state of awareness you awaken within. The word 'firstborn' points to a primal, preeminent sense of I AM, the consciousness from which all appearances arise. When you assume this within, the outer rulers of circumstance bow to your inner sovereignty, for you are governed by the Father within. Mercy kept for him forever is the steady mood of your awareness—an unending compassion you feel toward every image that arises. The covenant that stands fast with him is your unwavering agreement with your own divine nature, renewed by the act of belief in your true identity. His seed enduring forever is the ideas and creations you plant in imagination, which, rightly tended, persist beyond fleeting moments. And his throne as the days of heaven is the inner throne-room where you rule from the peace and order of heaven, always present as your innate state of being.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and feel: I am the firstborn, I reign in the inner kingdom; let mercy glow as constant life, and revise any apparent deficit by affirming, 'My covenant endures within me.'
