Inner Gates of Zion

Psalms 87:2-3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 87 in context

Scripture Focus

2The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
3Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.
Psalms 87:2-3

Biblical Context

God loves Zion's gates more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Zion is spoken of as the city of God.

Neville's Inner Vision

Beloved, these verses reveal that the gates you tend in your inner life are the real entrance to God-consciousness. The LORD loves these gates because through them the Life that you are enters your awareness. To dwell in Zion is to stand in the state of consciousness where God is present, not to worship a distant city. When you affirm 'I am the City of God' you declare that glorious things are spoken of you now; the city exists in your mind as a finished reality. The phrase 'Selah' is a call to pause and feel; use that pause to feel the Presence as immediate and intimate. The Psalmist’s words do not say that Zion is somewhere to be reached after death, but that the inner state is already glorious and spoken of. As you persist in this inner reality, you will find external conditions reflect the state you have assumed. The gates are your choices; by turning attention inward and entering through them with love, you invite divine life to flood every corner of your experience.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, and in imagination step through the gates of Zion into your innermost awareness. Set the assumption: 'I am the City of God,' and feel it real now.
