Biblical Context
Psalm 82:1-5 portrays God standing in the council of the mighty, judging among the gods. It calls out unjust judgments and invites inner reform so that truth and order may prevail.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within your consciousness the 'congregation of the mighty' is the ordered mind, and the 'gods' are the rival thoughts that pretend to rule. When you hear, 'How long will ye judge unjustly?' you are being nudged to stop giving power to fear, pride, or favoritism and to attend to the needy parts of yourself—the poor and fatherless within—your neglected faculties and instincts. Defend them; bring justice to the afflicted and needy by choosing a new premise about yourself. To deliver the poor and needy is to rid them from the hand of the wicked or remove lack, limitation, and old grievance from your inner speech. They know not, neither will they understand, becomes your recognition that ignorance and confusion arise from discordant thoughts, not from an external world. When the foundations of the earth are out of course, remember that you are the I AM; as you awaken to that truth, the outer world reorganizes to reflect inner harmony. The call to justice becomes a daily practice of aligning every thought with divine order and mercy.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume, 'I am the just governor within.' Sense the inner council align and declare mercy and order, letting lack fall away as you dwell in the I AM.
