Biblical Context
Psalm 81:12 says God gives people up to the desires of their own hearts, so they act according to their own schemes.
Neville's Inner Vision
God's word here is an inner law: when I cling to the heart's lust, I am handed over to that restless state and I walk by my own mental counsels. But I am not a separate creature trying to fix the world; I am the I AM, the awareness that chooses which state I inhabit. If I persist in imagining myself governed by egoic cravings, my life mirrors that fantasy, for imagination births reality and I live from the picture I hold. To reverse this, I must assume a new state of consciousness—one in which divine guidance, not appetite, leads. I quietly align with the inner I AM, feel the truth of being taught by that Presence, and let the old craving fade as a dream. In that altered state, the outer conditions begin to reflect peace, order, and sensible counsel that come from within rather than from the chest's impulses.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and declare, I AM the observer of all desires. Revise the scene by feeling that you now follow the inner divine counsel, not the heart's lust, and rest in that state until a calm impression comes.
