When you identify with the watcher, the adversary you perceive melts away; the sword falls upon the old mental pattern and it dies, not to punish you but to reveal the inner kingdom. The line 'they shall be a portion for foxes' indicates that whatever remains of the adversarial energy becomes food for the sly, instinctive tendencies that would keep you bound to a story of lack. Yet in truth, you are the I AM that imagines this verse; as you persist in the feeling of I AM, the external world rearranges itself to reflect your inner resolution. This is not vengeance but a law of consciousness: you awaken to the awareness that all figures and scenes come from within; the sword scours the field of your mind until only the steady I AM remains, returning you to your rightful sovereignty.
