Psalm 55:12-14 discerns a betrayal that is not from an outer foe but from a fellow part of your own mind—your equal, your guide, your acquaintance. In Neville’s terms, that ‘you’ is a state of consciousness you have identified with, a facet of the I AM that walked beside you and whispered counsel. The shock arises when you realize you have treated this inner ally as something external to your awareness; yet the verse invites you to see every figure in your life as a facet of your own awareness seeking alignment. When you ‘take sweet counsel together’ and walk to the house of God in company, you are describing a unity of your faculties. Your inner world becomes a sacred assembly, not a battlefield. The method is simple: assume the unity of all parts as already present; revise any sense of separation by imagining the equal guide as your collaborator in the I AM, not an authority against you. When you persist in this inner agreement, the outer result—peaceful harmony in your life—follows as a natural expression of the inner state.
