Biblical Context
Psalm 53:2-4 states that God looks to see who understands and seeks Him; yet humanity turns away, none do good, and those who act against God have not called upon Him.
Neville's Inner Vision
In the inner reading, the 'God' who looks down is the I AM within you, the awareness that weighs your states. When the chapter says God looked to see if there were any that understood and sought God, it reveals your own life as the moment of choice: you understand to the degree you turn toward awareness, and you seek God as the living presence within. The line that 'every one of them is gone back' and 'there is none that doeth good' is not a verdict on others but a description of the times when your mind has turned outward, thinking you are separate from the one life that moves you. The 'workers of iniquity' who 'eat up my people' symbolize thoughts that devour your vitality by convincing you of lack, fear, or unworthiness; they have not called upon God because you forgot to call upon the I AM in you. The remedy is an inward act: claim God now, call within, and treat your consciousness as the dwelling place of wisdom. When you assume you are seen and understood by the I AM, you become the very embodiment of God-seeking and good works arise as natural expressions.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes; breathe and affirm 'I AM' as your true awareness. Revise by feeling that you are now calling upon God within, and observe good thoughts naturally arising.
