Psalms 48:1-14 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 48 in context

Scripture Focus

1Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
2Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
3God is known in her palaces for a refuge.
4For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.
5They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away.
6Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.
7Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.
8As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah.
9We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.
10According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
11Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.
12Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof.
13Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.
14For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.
Psalms 48:1-14

Biblical Context

Psalm 48 celebrates Zion, the holy city of God, as a secure refuge and a place where God's presence is known. It invites contemplation of its walls and towers and declares that God will establish it forever.

Neville's Inner Vision

Zion is not a place on a map but a state of consciousness in which you awaken to the one reality called God, the I AM that you are. Great is the LORD in the inner city of your awareness, and to be praised is to align your imagination with that truth. The city’s beauty—its holiness, refuge, and steadfast structure—becomes the texture of your daily experience when you dwell there. The kings that gather outside represent doubts and fear; when you turn inward and survey your inner bulwarks and palaces, they tremble and depart, for you have chosen a refuge that cannot be moved. The east wind that breaks ships is the cleansing breath of your discipline, destroying old ships of Tarshish of limitation. As you walk about Zion, you witness the towers and walls as your delightful thoughts and righteous habits. Tell it to the next generation within you: God will establish this city forever, your guide for life and beyond death—the movement from fear to an enduring, joyous awareness.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Assume you are inside Zion now, feel the refuge, and let the I AM move as your life; dwell there long enough for the sense of guidance to become real.
