Biblical Context
Psalm 3:1-5 portrays opposition and taunting, but asserts that the true protector is God as the I AM, sustaining sleep and awakening through faith and inner trust.
Neville's Inner Vision
Psalm 3 presents an outer scene of opposition, yet Neville would invite you to see that the troubles and the cries are movements of your own inner state. The cry Lord, how are they increased that trouble me becomes the recognition that a restless mind has multiplied such impressions within consciousness. When the voice says There is no help for him in God, you reinterpret God as the I AM that you are. But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me declares your state of protection, the lifting up of your head, the dignity of consciousness that will not fail you. I cried unto the LORD with my voice is a deliberate turning toward awareness, toward the inner hill, your fixed position of sustenance. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me becomes the practice: resting in the conviction that your inner shield never wavers, so sleep becomes renewal and waking proves that the inner presence sustains you.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and assume I AM as the shield around you. Feel the quiet protection lifting your head and sustaining both sleep and waking, a concrete proof that your life is upheld by the inner presence.
