Read Psalms 23 in context

Scripture Focus

1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Psalms 23:1-5

Biblical Context

Psalm 23 portrays God as a guiding shepherd who provides, restores, and leads through calm and danger, culminating in abundant, peaceful presence.

Neville's Inner Vision

The speaker is not addressing a distant deity but the I AM within awareness itself. When I align with that inner shepherd, lack dissolves and abundance appears as a mental image: green pastures for peace, still waters for quiet confidence. Walking in the paths of righteousness becomes choosing thoughts and actions that honor the true self, not fear. The valley of the shadow of death is a momentary darkness within mind; I fear no evil because the I AM is with me, and its rod and staff—the steady, supportive thoughts and feelings—comfort me. A table prepared before me in the presence of enemies signifies the feast of consciousness: abundance imagined, divisions dissolved, oil anointing my head as clarity, my cup overflowing. Thus mercy and peace follow me as I dwell in the inner kingdom, knowing the Shepherd is within and I shall not want.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and affirm, 'I am led by the I AM to green pastures; I am beside still waters.' Then revise any sense of lack to fullness until the feeling of abundance is real in your chest and mind.
