Psalms 17:6-8

Biblical Context

The psalmist calls on God to be heard, asks for mercy, and desires protection. The imagery centers on being kept safe in divine care.

Neville's Inner Vision

I hear thee, and thee hear me, for the I AM within answers to my call. The verse translates to a clarity of consciousness: I am not petitioning a distant power, but waking to the fact that my own awareness is already heard by the Creative Reality that I call God. When I incline my ear to my own speech, I align with the marvellous lovingkindness that saves by the right hand of steadfast belief. The adversaries are only thoughts rising against the certainty of my being; I do not chase them outside me, I revise them within. Keep me as the apple of the eye; let my attention be fixed on that which preserves and nourishes me. Hide me under the shadow of thy wings—imagine a shelter inside my mind where fear cannot reach, because I am held by the natural mercy of the I AM. This is salvation as present experience, a daily return to the truth that the self that speaks is the self that is heard, protected, and kept secure in consciousness.

Practice This Now

Imaginative Act: Sit quietly, breathe, and repeat I AM heard; I AM kept. Visualize a winged shadow sheltering your mind and fix your attention at the apple of your eye—the center of your consciousness.
