Inner Counsel and Presence

Psalms 16:7-9 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Psalms 16 in context

Scripture Focus

7I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.
8I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
9Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.
Psalms 16:7-9

Biblical Context

God offers constant counsel that guides the inner self; by keeping the divine presence before me I remain unmoved, and my heart rejoices while my body rests in hopeful expectation. This is the inner state the psalm invites us to inhabit.

Neville's Inner Vision

Here the psalm speaks not of external weather but of the state of consciousness. If you consistently place the I AM before you, you are not moved by circumstance, for your inner sense—your reins—are tutored by divine counsel even in the night seasons. The line 'at my right hand' is a figure for the intelligent, supportive presence that acts as alignment with your true self; when you dwell in that presence, your heart rests in peace and your flesh rests in hope, because you have embraced the truth that God is your constant consciousness. The blessing of the LORD becomes a blessing of your own awareness, a turning toward the inner center that retrains the subconscious and restores vitality. By choosing to identify with this presence, you shift the internal weather: doubt dissolves, courage rises, and the body responds with rest as the natural fruit of right perception.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Assume you are the I AM, anchored by the presence at your right hand. Repeat softly, 'The LORD is my counsel and my rest,' and feel the body settle into rest and hopeful expectancy.
