Biblical Context
God, within you, awakens perception and raises the downtrodden. He protects those who feel alien, and the vulnerable, while overturning the ways of the wicked.
Neville's Inner Vision
The Lord in this psalm is your I AM—the inner awareness that makes all things. Opening the eyes of the blind is the moment you assume a new inner sight; the bowed down are your old beliefs, lifted by a steadfast conviction that you are not defined by them. The righteous are those who dwell in alignment with this inner order, not by outward rules but by consistency of consciousness. The Lord preserves the strangers—the unfamiliar parts of you that feel strange—and relieves the fatherless and widow—the vulnerable child within—by enfolding them in the certainty of your lasting being. When you resist this inner economy, the wicked path is turned upside down; fear contracts your world. But when you live from the I AM, life moves to reflect your inner state, restoring perception, lifting you, and overturning perceived lack. This psalm invites you to rule from consciousness, until your inner sight governs the world you call real.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and declare, 'I am the open eye of God within me.' Feel your sense of being rise, then rest in that assurance for a few breaths.
