Read Psalms 141 in context

Scripture Focus

3Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.
4Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.
5Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.
Psalms 141:3-5

Biblical Context

The psalm asks for a guard over the mouth, a purifying heart, and willingness to be corrected, so prayer remains intact amid calamities. It sets a path of discipline and integrity.

Neville's Inner Vision

View these lines as a map of the inner state you inhabit. Set a watch before the mouth means reside in the I AM and allow that awareness to govern every word that passes into expression. The door of the lips is not a barrier of denial but a gateway to alignment between imagination and speech. Do not incline your heart to evil thoughts or to partake in the cravings that the world offers; when you sense such invitations, revise them by returning to the truth that you are the I AM, unshaken by appearances. Do not eat of their dainties; take instead the nourishment of truthful impression, the feeling that your inner kitchen is peaceful, and that your inner self chooses only what is life and love. Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness; let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil. In Neville's language, even correction is anointing that holds the head upright and keeps your prayer constant in the face of calamity. The outer world is the stage, but your state of consciousness is the actor and director of all that appears.

Practice This Now

Assume the I AM as the gatekeeper of your mouth and revise any impulse to speak harm. Feel the calm authority of your true state, and imagine your lips moving only in truth and love.
