Biblical Context
The verse identifies the heathen's idols as silver and gold, objects formed by human hands, highlighting a contrast between external wealth and genuine devotion.
Neville's Inner Vision
The idols you behold are not outside of you; they are images formed in your own mind by your attention to wealth and form. The verse calls the nation’s idols the work of hands, but the real 'hand' is your imaginative activity. To worship is to give your life to consciousness rather than to external objects. True worship means turning from form and fixing your awareness on I AM, the unchanging Presence that animates all appearances. Wealth and provision are therefore states of consciousness, not external possessions to chase. When you persist in the sense of already having what you seek, the outward silver and gold lose their power to command your feeling. Your imagination, rightly directed, creates a world in which abundance is your now. Do not side with lack; align with the reality of the I AM and let the idol’s glare dissolve into meaning. The Psalm invites you to examine where you worship form and gently shift to the living Presence within.
Practice This Now
Imaginative_act: In stillness, revise your sense by declaring, 'I AM wealth now,' and feel the reality of provision as if it already exists; let a mental image of abundance form in your mind.
