The psalmist declares peace within his brethren and commits to seek their good because of the house of the Lord.
Neville's Inner Vision
Here the verse invites you to discover that brethren and companions are states of your own consciousness. Peace is not a distant condition but an inner atmosphere you dwell in until it saturates your outer world. When you say peace be within thee, you are affirming a permanent inner alignment, and when you add because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good, you acknowledge that your inner temple—the awareness of God—determines your outward regard for others. The house of the LORD is the fixed idea of divine presence within; through that, your attitude toward others shifts from judgment to service. By maintaining the feeling that you already live in a peaceful, unified city of God within, you spontaneously act for the welfare of your companions. The very act of seeking their good becomes the natural expression of your inner peace, reinforcing the state until it becomes your everyday experience.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and repeat the phrase peace within me now. Visualize your brethren as aspects of your own mind, then feel the goodwill of that inner peace guiding you to seek the good of all throughout your day.
