Biblical Context
The psalm invites prayer for peace in Jerusalem, linking love with prosperity. It suggests that inner peace within one's walls leads to outer prosperity in life.
Neville's Inner Vision
Jerusalem in this psalm is not a distant city but the living center of your awareness. When you pray for its peace, you are declaring the condition of your own consciousness. Peace is the steady alignment of attention with the I AM that breathes you, the timeless stillness within that knows you are, and always were, abundant. To love Jerusalem is to cherish the inner walls that guard your thoughts and the palaces where your wealth of ideas, feelings, and possibilities reside. Love is the door that allows the light of consciousness to enter, and prosperity follows love as a natural expression when you inhabit this inner city with gratitude. The verse teaches that prosperity comes to those who love the city they inhabit; it is not produced by outward struggle but by a settled, beloved state. So repeatedly return to your inner Jerusalem, listening for the I am that says, It is done. In that frame, the outer world rearranges itself to fit the interior order you've affirmed. Peace within becomes prosperity without, simply by your restored sense of being.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Sit quietly and assume I am at peace in my inner Jerusalem. Feel that peace as a radiant current flowing through your inner walls and filling your palaces with readiness to prosper.
