Biblical Context
Psalm 119:17-24 pleads for bounty so the servant may live by and keep the Word. It asks for inner sight to behold wondrous things in the law, and declares that thy testimonies are delight and counsel.
Neville's Inner Vision
Think of the Psalmist's words as commands to the I AM within. The request to 'deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live' is the soul aligning with its living law so that life follows from living by the Word. 'Open thou mine eyes' becomes an instruction to imagine with clarity the wondrous things thy law reveals when fully trusted. To say, 'I am a stranger in the earth' is the recognition that the outer world is not the true home; thy commandments are the inner compass that never fails. The yearning for judgments at all times is the discipline of continuous awareness, and the rebuke of the proud is the correction that keeps the mind from wandering from its source. When I remove reproach and contempt by keeping thy testimonies, I maintain the fidelity that calls forth support from within. Even as princes speak against me, the servant who meditates in thy statutes finds the inner throne of calm assurance. Thy testimonies are my delight and counsellors—the inner authorities by which reality bends to align with truth. This is the inward law at work; your life follows the law you cherish.
Practice This Now
Imaginative_act: In a quiet moment, assume you already live by the inner Word; repeat, 'I am bountifully blessed by the Law within,' and feel that reality. Let the feeling travel from gut to mind, so the outer world begins to reflect your inner alignment.
