Biblical Context
Psalm 10:1-5 laments God seeming distant in trouble, while the wicked boast and prosper in pride; it says God is not in their thoughts and their ways are grievous.
Neville's Inner Vision
Hiddenness and distance are not facts in an external world but signals of inner states. The 'afar off' is your present habit of identifying with a mind that forgets God’s nearness. The wicked in pride or greed are parts of your own consciousness that have identified with separation from the I AM. Let them be; imagine they are merely characters within your inner theater, arising from thought that has forgotten its source. When you recognize that 'God is not in all his thoughts' refers to a mind not aware of the divine presence, you recall that your true sight is the I AM always aware, always present. The 'ways' that are grievous symbolize faulty patterns of belief that you can revise by assuming what you want is already real in your inner life. The distant judgments are merely perceived consequences of a misaligned state; realignment occurs as you dwell in the awareness that God, the I AM, is the constant undercurrent of experience. In this light, the verse invites you to revise the scene from fear to faith by assuming consciousness of the divine now.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and, with steady breath, affirm: I AM here; God is present within me now. Revise the sense of distance by feeling the nearness of the divine I AM, and imagine the entire situation already fulfilled in that awareness.
