Biblical Context
The verse warns that flattering another is not innocent praise but a trap you set in your own mind. What you project outwardly reveals an inner state that binds you to falsehood rather than truth.
Neville's Inner Vision
Flattery is not praise; it is a subtle knot your mind ties around another’s image to secure your own sense of value. In the inner economy, to flatter your neighbor is to believe you must shape reality to suit your appetite for approval. Yet every spoken compliment is a movement of consciousness you make in the moment; when you flatter, you cast a net that tightens around your own feet, binding you to appearances rather than truth. The I AM within you is awake to exactness and integrity; to see your neighbor as separate from your own need for validation is to loosen the trap. Remember, events in life are but states of consciousness; change the inner state and the outer scene will reflect honesty, trust, and faithful love. Do not chase praise; choose freedom by accepting that you are already complete, and that truth, not flattery, governs your relations. When you align with the inner I AM, you cease weaving nets and begin walking freely in compassion.
Practice This Now
Assume the feeling that you are the I AM: complete, truthful, and loving. In your next exchange, revise any planned compliment into a sincere blessing and listen with compassionate presence.
