Proverbs 28:16 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Proverbs 28 in context

Scripture Focus

16The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.
Proverbs 28:16

Biblical Context

The prince who lacks understanding oppresses others; the one who hates covetousness prolongs his days.

Neville's Inner Vision

Think of the 'prince' within as your governing state of consciousness. If your inner ruler has no understanding—no discernment between appearance and truth—oppression follows as a natural result, not from a tyrant outside but from a belief you have allowed to govern you. The moment you hate covetousness, you release the spell of scarcity and realize true abundance is your I AM. Understanding here means alignment with your inner life, the ability to distinguish cause from effect and to see that outward conditions reflect your inner conviction. When you assume authority from within, you stop pressing others into service and stop feeling the need to accumulate to feel safe. The days you fear losing or the hunger for more are dissolved as you rest in the awareness that you are the I AM, the life that cannot be oppressed by external circumstance. This is not about social reform; it is about transforming the inner ruler until his acts reflect justice, mercy, and freedom.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: Sit quietly, feel the throne of understanding in your chest, and declare, 'I am the I AM.' Revise any sense of lack by stating, 'I hate covetousness' and feel the inner vitality flowing as your days lengthen.
