Proverbs 28:1-6 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Proverbs 28 in context

Scripture Focus

1The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.
2For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.
3A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.
4They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.
5Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.
6Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.
Proverbs 28:1-6

Biblical Context

The passage contrasts fear with bold righteousness and shows that living by wisdom and law sustains both individuals and communities. It values upright behavior and justice over oppression or wealth.

Neville's Inner Vision

Picture the lines as a map of consciousness. The 'wicked' fleeing is the old thought-forms fleeing from your I AM; the 'righteous bold as a lion' is the state of awareness that stands firm, unmoved by appearances. The governance image—princes of a land—shows that any state you inhabit rises to the degree your inner understanding sustains it. Oppression of the poor is the mind that consumes others' energy; the 'sweeping rain' leaves none to eat because thought has starved itself of nourishment. Those who forsake the law praise the wicked; those who keep the law contend with them by keeping attention on divine order. Evil men understand not judgment; those who seek the LORD understand all things: seek the Lord not outside, but as the active I AM within you, the perceiving power that weighs all things. Better is the poor who walks upright than the rich who is perverse; wealth in spirit is steadiness, honesty, and justice. Your imagination is the royal road—assume the bold, upright self and the kingdom within becomes your visible world.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and repeat: The righteous are bold as a lion. Then revise fear into confidence by imagining the I AM within you governing your life, and feel the bold, upright state becoming your experience.
