Inner Justice of Obadiah

Obadiah 1:10-14 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Obadiah 1 in context

Scripture Focus

10For thy violence against thy brother Jacob shame shall cover thee, and thou shalt be cut off for ever.
11In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.
12But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress.
13Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;
14Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.
Obadiah 1:10-14

Biblical Context

The verse condemns violence against a brother and rejoicing in another's calamity. It shows such acts arise from an inner state of division that cuts off unity.

Neville's Inner Vision

Observe that Obadiah’s offender is not merely a neighboring oppressor but a state of consciousness within you. Violence against your brother Jacob is the twisting of your own I AM into fear and possessiveness; when you stand on the 'other side' you are simply feeding a belief in separation. To rejoice in another's destruction or to lay hands on what is not yours are acts that reflect a closed heart and a closed mind. The day you treat their calamity as your own, you have already cut off your gates and divided your substance, for you have placed yourself at the crossroads of scarcity and judgment. The cure is a radical revision: awaken to the truth that you and your brother are one in I AM, and dwell there until compassion flows as the natural state. When you feel it real that you are the doer of all your world and that others' fortunes are your own inner wealth, the external conditions follow the inner harmony.

Practice This Now

Imaginative act: In a quiet moment, assume the state of unity with your brother; silently affirm 'I and my brother are one I AM,' and feel the relief and abundance as if it is already true.
