Biblical Context
These verses describe the western camp of Ephraim with its captains and the numbers of those numbered. They emphasize orderly arrangement and the directive to move forward in the third rank.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within you, the westward banner signals a state of disciplined consciousness. Ephraim's standard stands for the authority of your I AM, the awareness that assigns role and place to every thought and feeling. Elishama, captain of Ephraim, is the conscious attention that directs your inner army; his forty thousand five hundred marked energy becomes your practiced capacity. By him shall be Manasseh, the steward of reason, whose thirty-two thousand two hundred steps show how ideas move when governed by a clear aim. Benjamin, under Abidan, with thirty-five thousand four hundred, embodies loyalty and the covenant mind that remembers and keeps faith with your ultimate image. All told, one hundred eight thousand one hundred within Ephraim signify a complete, integrated mind at work. They shall go forward in the third rank - a symbolic mandate that your inner army advances from imagination through disciplined structure to action, guided by Presence within. You are the census-taker of your own soul, counting what you authorize and moving your inner camp to fulfill your true aim.
Practice This Now
Practice: Close your eyes and state, 'I AM the captain of my inner Ephraim; I count and authorize my thoughts and feelings.' Then feel the forward movement as if your inner camp is marching in harmony toward the Presence.
