Read Nehemiah 9 in context

Scripture Focus

21Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing; their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not.
Nehemiah 9:21

Biblical Context

God sustained the Israelites for forty years in the wilderness, so they lacked nothing; their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell.

Neville's Inner Vision

In the inner theater, the wilderness is a state of consciousness, not a place. The forty years symbolize a long, steady pattern of trusting the I AM rather than the senses. God is the I AM, the living awareness that sustains you; the verse declares you lack nothing because this awareness is ever-present. The unwearied clothes and unwounded feet are symbols that your body and world are obedient to your belief. When you hold the assumption that the I AM is your constant source, outward conditions bow to that truth. The desert dissolves as faith becomes your habitual sensation; supply arises where you expect it least because it is already within. Your power to live without want rests on realizing you are the one who provides for yourself through the divine Presence within. Make this revision in your heart: 'I am sustained now by the I AM; I lack for nothing.' Let this awareness permeate your being until it becomes your ordinary experience.

Practice This Now

Sit quietly, close your eyes, and breathe into the sense that the I AM sustains you. Revise your state by whispering, 'I am sustained now by the I AM; I lack for nothing,' until it feels real.
