The Inner Letters of Fear
Nehemiah 6:19 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Nehemiah 6 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Opponents report Nehemiah's deeds and repeat his words; Tobiah's letters aim to frighten him into abandoning the work.
Neville's Inner Vision
Picture the scene as an inner drama, not a history. What are these 'men' and 'letters' but thoughts and whispers moving within your consciousness, trying to derail your resolve? I tell you: you are not Nehemiah in a political city but the I AM, the consciousness that writes its own history. When 'they reported his good deeds before me' and 'uttered my words to him,' these are the favorable acts and spoken words already aligned with your desired state appearing as reminders to your awareness. When 'Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear,' recognize the 'letters' as fear thoughts sent by the outside world of your mind—gossip, doubt, and the memory of past failures. They aim to awaken your fear so you will abandon the mission, but fear cannot conquer a state that has assumed the end already. The key is to realize that your imagination is the law by which you live; you can revise the scene from fear to faith by declaring, in your heart, that you already stand unshaken by any letter.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: For 2–3 minutes, revise the scene by mentally replacing fear-filled letters with messages of approval and unwavering focus; feel the assurance of your I AM, and let that feeling real.
