Inner Truth, No Oaths
Matthew 5:34-36 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Jesus instructs not to swear by heaven, earth, Jerusalem, or one's head. Truthfulness should be the basis of one's statements, reflecting inner integrity.
Neville's Inner Vision
Observe that the Master forbids swearing by heaven, earth, Jerusalem, or by your head, for all such names belong to the outward stage of consciousness. The inward life, however, already holds the truth; when you accept that heaven is merely a state of awareness, your words no longer need external witnesses. The I AM—your true consciousness—is the throne, the footstool, and the great city all at once; from that unity, your speech can flow with unwavering sincerity. You cannot literally change a hair by force, but you can inhabit a state in which your word carries the weight of truth. In truth, the outer signs are reflections of an inner life; if you wish to be trusted, you must trust the inner life that already trusts. When you are tempted to swear, revise the impulse with: I am the I AM; truth is my nature; I speak from the unchanging that I am. In that revision, the habit of swearing dissolves, and your reality rises to align with the inner declaration of integrity.
Practice This Now
Imaginative Act: Close your eyes and imagine heaven, earth, and Jerusalem as inner dispositions within you; then affirm, I am the I AM—truth itself—speaking now. Feel this truth as a living state that guides every word you utter.
