Fear Before The Inner Presence
Matthew 28:4 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Matthew 28 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The guards tremble before a divine presence and collapse as though dead.
Neville's Inner Vision
In this verse the 'fear' of the guards is not fear of a distant deity but fear arising from the mind's encounter with its own I AM. The 'him' stands for the Presence you truly are. When consciousness recognizes truth, old identity—represented by 'dead men'—cannot stand. The guards' trembling signifies the moment when one confronts the living existence of the divine within; fear dissolves as you acknowledge that you are the thinker and the reality is your inner state. The scene invites you to reinterpret every external 'watch' or 'angel' as the inner revelation that you are alive, awake, and free in the awareness that you are I AM. Your task is to shift from identification with fear to the felt experience of being the Presence that measures and animates all scenes.
Practice This Now
Practice: When fear arises, assume the feeling of I AM right where you stand. Revise the scene by affirming 'I AM the Presence here' and feel the tremors soften as your inner life remains vividly awake.
