Return of the Unclean Spirit

Matthew 12:43-45 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Matthew 12 in context

Scripture Focus

43When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
Matthew 12:43-45

Biblical Context

The passage portrays an unclean spirit leaving a man, the mind left empty and outwardly tidy. It then returns with seven more wicked spirits, making the man's final condition worse than the first.

Neville's Inner Vision

I tell you, this is not a history but a law of inner life. When a lower state departs, the room of consciousness becomes dry and empty because there is no I AM occupancy. If you merely sweep and garnish the house, you invite the old patterns back, for you have not filled the space with a higher truth. The seven spirits are the many little thoughts and habits that cling to fear, desire, or lack; when they enter, the last state is worse because you have valued appearance over actual indwelling. The grace of the parable is this: you can break the cycle by choosing a higher reality and assuming it as present now. Do not chase demons; enthrone the king within and dwell as the I AM that cannot be moved by circumstance. Your inner order will stabilize as you refuse to vacate the throne of consciousness to anything less than God-realization.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and declare, I AM the dwelling place of God now; feel the inner room filled with divine light and hold that reality as real for a minute.
