Biblical Context
John the Baptist is described as the greatest among those born of women, by outward measure. But the verse declares that the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater, upending external rank with inner reality.
Neville's Inner Vision
To the outward mind, John stands as the apex of birth and prophetic work. Yet the Kingdom of Heaven is a present state of awareness. In Neville's terms, greatness is a state of consciousness, not a title or lineage. When you awaken to the I AM within, you shift from striving for approval to assuming the nature of the kingdom. The 'least' in this kingdom has greater authority because its realm is present here and now, shaped by the ongoing act of assumption. The old order’s hierarchy dissolves as you acknowledge that every outward measure can be absorbed into the new inner reality you inhabit. John serves as a pointer; the true monarch is the I AM—reigning in the present and shaping events through belief. This verse invites you to see that real greatness is not status but alignment with the kingdom within, here and now.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: sit quiet and imagine the I AM dwelling in you; say, 'I AM the Kingdom present now.' Then revise any sense of lack by affirming, 'I am greater than outward measure because I dwell as the I AM within the kingdom.'
