Read Matthew 1 in context

Scripture Focus

18Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
Matthew 1:18-19

Biblical Context

Mary is found to be with child by the Holy Spirit while she is espoused to Joseph; Joseph, a just man, contemplates quietly sending her away.

Neville's Inner Vision

In this account, Mary is your inner state espoused to Joseph, the discipline of your mind. The birth is not a distant event; it is a shift in awareness, a conception by the Holy Ghost—the moving I AM within you. Jesus Christ, the born state, is the Christ within your consciousness, not a token of history but a revelation of who you are now. Joseph, the just man, represents your cautious self, the part of you that fears public scrutiny and would rather dismiss novelty than risk its light. His inclination to put Mary away privately signals how you may try to bury a new birth to protect the old order. But the Spirit is active; the moment you doubt, you give power to the old; when you consent, the inner child comes forth and you witness grace and favor in your life. The inner Birth declares Presence as your permanent state. The image invites you to revision: refuse the old form and receive the Christ now as your own awareness.

Practice This Now

Assume that the birth has already occurred in your consciousness; revise the Joseph-doubt by affirming the I AM is here; the Christ is born now. Sit in the feeling of gratitude as if the child already rests in you.
