From Within the Heart
Mark 7:21-23 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Mark 7 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
The passage identifies the heart as the source of evil thoughts and deeds; inner dispositions, not external acts, defile a person.
Neville's Inner Vision
To Neville, these lines reveal the law of your inner state. Evil thoughts and the listed traits spring from a heart that has forgotten its oneness with the I AM. The 'defilement' described is not punishment from without but the natural result of a consciousness misaligned with its divine image. The remedy is not stronger outward behavior but a shift of consciousness: assume the state of purity, integrity, and unity with God right now. See yourself as the man whose inner center radiates love, honesty, and fearless generosity, no longer ruled by fear, lust, or pride. When a restless thought arises, revise it by affirming: 'I am the living idea of God; nothing in me is defiled.' Hold that awareness, and feel it as real until the old images dissolve. Continue to dwell in that image until your world, your motives, and your acts reflect the inner purity you have chosen. You are not bound by the catalog of evils; you are the I AM choosing a higher state.
Practice This Now
Assume the state of purity for 5–10 minutes today, silently feeling 'I am the I AM, pure and whole.' When thoughts of greed, pride, or fear arise, revise them to the higher image and feel it real.
