Biblical Context
In Mark 3:31-35, Jesus redefines kinship: true family is not biological, but those who do the will of God. The external crowd points to blood relations, while the inner life of obedience defines the real circle.
Neville's Inner Vision
Within this scene the Christ within speaks not to a crowd about Jesus’s blood kin, but to your own consciousness. The ‘brethren’ and the mother standing outside symbolize outward calls, habits, and appearances; the question 'Who is my mother, or my brethren?' becomes a key to your inner life. The answer is that the only kin truly acknowledged is the state of being that does the will of God. The will of God is not a distant command but the nearest movement of your I AM awakening to what is right, harmonious, and true. When you declare inwardly, 'I am one with the will of God,' you align your attention with the inner current that binds you to every soul who also obeys that will. Your real family is the circle of consciousness—those who live by the divine intention—your brother, your sister, your mother in the sense of shared life in God. The outer family becomes secondary; the inner community grows as imagination is given form. By assuming this truth, you invite harmony, and circumstances reflect your unity rather than separation.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and imagine sitting with a circle of people who do the will of God; feel a warm, intimate kinship. Then revise silently: 'I am one with all who do the will of God; I am surrounded by my true family.'
