Service Makes True Greatness

Luke 22:26-27 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Luke 22 in context

Scripture Focus

26But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
27For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
Luke 22:26-27

Biblical Context

Greatness is defined by service, not rank. The greatest should resemble the youngest and serve, just as Jesus models.

Neville's Inner Vision

Here the words call you to enter a state of service as your true self. In Neville's phrase, greatness is not a chair at the table but a quality of consciousness—the willingness to minister to others from the I AM that you are. When you imagine the greatest among you as the one who serves, you erase the illusion of separation between God and neighbor. The 'among you' in your mind becomes the awareness that God is always present wherever love moves to assist another. The key is to treat each act of service as a revelation of your identity, not as a duty to be performed. As you persist in that alignment, your inner life harmonizes with the outer world; outcomes reflect your inner posture rather than your position. The I AM that you are is active, not passive, and its expression is service. So you are not rising above others by rank, but expanding into a larger sense of I AM service, which unifies heart, neighbor, and Creator in one living presence.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, assume the state 'I am the servant of all,' and feel it as real now. In a small act today, serve without seeking recognition, and repeat 'I AM' to seal the revision.
