Birth in the Inner City
Luke 2:1-3 - A Neville Goddard interpretation
Read Luke 2 in context
Scripture Focus
Biblical Context
Caesar’s decree forced everyone to go to their own city to be taxed, creating the outward backdrop for the nativity event.
Neville's Inner Vision
Luke 2:1-3 is not a distant political scene but a reflection of your inner world. The decree, the taxation, and the journey to one’s city symbolize how a state of consciousness moves you to the place or condition your attention believes it must attain. In Neville’s sense, outer events are the visible effects of inner assumptions. When you hold a belief that you are governed by lack or limitation, you enact a 'tax' on your life; when you revise that belief, you invite the birth of your true self in the inner city of your heart. The manger and the divine birth become symbols of awakening: the Christ idea already exists within you, awaiting recognition by a steadfast inner decree. Providence is the ongoing guidance that moves you to inhabit your inner state as your outer reality. By aligning with the inner city as your home, you birth the Kingdom in present experience, and the world’s outward taxation becomes a sign of inner alignment fulfilled.
Practice This Now
Imaginatively assume you are already in your inner city where the Christ is born; quietly affirm, 'I am the I AM, and I am in my inner city now,' and dwell there until the sense of birth fills you.
