Inner House Cleansing

Luke 11:24-26 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Luke 11 in context

Scripture Focus

24When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out.
25And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished.
26Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
Luke 11:24-26

Biblical Context

The passage warns that expelling an unclean spirit leaves an empty space; unless that space is occupied by a higher consciousness, the old pattern can return, sometimes in a stronger form.

Neville's Inner Vision

Luke 11:24-26, in Neville's sense, is an inner economics of the mind. When a troublesome belief exits, the empty space will urge a new occupant unless a higher consciousness is provided by I AM. The 'swept and garnished' house is outwardly clean but lacks the inner conviction that the present reality is already fulfilled. The danger of seven worse spirits entering shows that the mind will substitute fear with new forms unless an enduring sense of God as I AM occupies the space. The remedy is to re-state the state, to dwell in the present tense I AM and to imagine the space permanently filled by divine life. By assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled as the true nature of the mind, you become the guardian of your inner house and make it impossible for old patterns to regain dominance.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and declare, 'I AM the house of God within me.' Feel the rooms glow with the presence of I AM and rest in that assurance for a few minutes, continuing daily until it becomes your automatic state.
