Inner Covenant Against Idols Within

Joshua 23:7 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Joshua 23 in context

Scripture Focus

7That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:
Joshua 23:7

Biblical Context

The verse instructs not to align with the remaining nations or their deities, nor speak of or serve them.

Neville's Inner Vision

Joshua 23:7 speaks not of geography but of the interior posture. In Neville’s keynote, the nations are states of consciousness—the persistent beliefs, fears, and social approvals that lurk in the mind. The call to avoid their names, to refrain from swearing by their gods, or bowing to them, is a reminder that you cannot serve two powers in consciousness. When you give attention to a belief that is not the I AM within you, you are accrediting an idol; when you mention its gods or act as if their power governs you, you empower a counterfeit ruler. The reality you seek, the land of peace and promised abundance, is already present as pure awareness—the I AM that you are. By refusing to honor counterfeit names or acts, you relegate them to the nothingness from which they came and awaken to the sovereign, indivisible presence within. Your inner loyalty must be unshakable: no affirmation of lack, no worship of fear, no partnership with limitation. You are the I AM; the imagined powers are but shadows that vanish when faced by your light.

Practice This Now

Assume the consciousness of the I AM now, and revise any lingering idol-image by silently declaring, 'I bow to the One Power within me.' As thoughts arise, feel the conviction: only the I AM speaks here, and all idols dissolve into stillness.
