Biblical Context
Israel grows strong and imposes tribute on the Canaanites. Yet they fail to drive them out completely.
Neville's Inner Vision
Consider that the land of my consciousness grows strong, and I tax the old beliefs into submission not to punish, but to source new power. The Canaanites are the stubborn traits I once tolerated—the fears, judgments, and habits that cling for tribute. When I feel myself waxed strong, I may think I have driven them out, yet the verse shows a subtler truth: remnants remain, feeding a quiet sense of limitation. My I AM, the very awareness I dwell in, does not bargain with such leftovers. I choose covenant loyalty—the unshakable conviction that I am more than any old idol. As I dwell in that sense, the old patterns lose their charge, their tribute becoming fuel for a higher life. The act of feeling it real, of assuming fullness, dissolves the need to appease the past. In that inward alignment, the inner kingdom expands, and power flows through me not as domination of others but as a serene authority over my thoughts, feelings, and choices.
Practice This Now
Close your eyes and declare, I am the I AM; revise the belief that any old impulse can drive my life. See the inner land as secure; imagine the old Canaanites paying tribute to your divine I AM as you drive them out—completely and permanently—feeling the reality of total inner obedience.
