Inner Boundaries of Reuben

Joshua 13:16-23 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read Joshua 13 in context

Scripture Focus

16And their coast was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain by Medeba;
17Heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamothbaal, and Bethbaalmeon,
18And Jahaza, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,
19And Kirjathaim, and Sibmah, and Zarethshahar in the mount of the valley,
20And Bethpeor, and Ashdothpisgah, and Bethjeshimoth,
21And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, which were dukes of Sihon, dwelling in the country.
22Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among them that were slain by them.
23And the border of the children of Reuben was Jordan, and the border thereof. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben after their families, the cities and the villages thereof.
Joshua 13:16-23

Biblical Context

Reuben’s inheritance along the Jordan is mapped with cities and plains, framed by the kingdom of Sihon. The section closes with Balaam slain and the clear border of Reuben's tribes.

Neville's Inner Vision

Read Joshua 13:16-23 as a blueprint for the inner state. The coast and cities are the reach of your attention; the Jordan is the living boundary where you step into life. Reuben's inheritance is the condition of consciousness you claim when you know I AM as your aware self. Sihon’s kingdom and its dukes symbolize the outer authorities that once govern your thoughts—fear, habit, doubt. Moses’ smiting of Sihon and Balaam’s death symbolize your readiness to break the prophecies that would keep you small; you affirm you are the ruler of your inner land, not the slave to external appearances. The phrase “after their families” points to a lineage of belief you choose to realign—new thoughts, new loyalties, a fresh inheritance of trust in Providence. As you dwell in this inner territory, you inhabit a kingdom that is not conquered by others but disclosed by your own inner awareness.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes and assume you already inhabit Reuben's Jordan boundary in your mind; feel the security of living within your inner cities, and revise any sense of lack until it feels natural.
