Biblical Context
Jesus teaches that when the Son of Man is lifted up, the truth of his identity is known. He also shows that his words come not from self-will but from the Father within.
Neville's Inner Vision
To Neville, the 'lifted up' is the ascent of consciousness, the moment you realize the Christ within. The phrase 'I am He' is not a boast about a distant person but the present recognition that your awareness itself is the God-made man. The line 'I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me' reveals the mechanism: you are not manufacturing thoughts from ego; you are listening to the Father within and speaking what is taught by that inner tutor. When you stop trying to force outcomes and instead align your attention with the I AM, your speech and action carry the authority of divine guidance. The Son of Man lifted up then becomes your inner sovereignty revealed; the teacher and the taught are one, and all teaching proceeds through you as you stand in identification with your divine source. This is prophecy fulfilled here and now: the inner revelation becomes outer form as you live from unity with the Father.
Practice This Now
Imaginative act: Assume the state that you are the lifted Son of Man; feel the Father within guiding your next thought and words. For five minutes, repeat softly, 'I am taught by the Father' until it feels real.
