Above and Beneath Within You

John 8:23-24 - A Neville Goddard interpretation

Read John 8 in context

Scripture Focus

23And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
24I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
John 8:23-24

Biblical Context

John 8:23-24 presents two states of being—beneath and above. Jesus warns that unless you believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.

Neville's Inner Vision

Two claims, two kingdoms of consciousness: you are 'from beneath' the world of proof and time, I am 'from above' the timeless awareness that you are. When you hear 'ye shall die in your sins' you are being told that until you believe that I am he—the inner I AM—the sense of separation remains intact and you live within limitation. In the Neville sense, the world is not out there; it is your state of mind. The act of unbelief keeps you tethered to the lower, to fear, guilt, and lack; belief in the I AM shifts your interior weather, re-aligning memory, sensation, and habit with divine identity. The moment you entertain the fact that 'I AM' is your own awareness, you revoke the sentence of death by suggestion. Salvation is not a future event but a present alignment: you become the above by assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled, living from the end where you already stand complete in God. Your unbelief dissolves as you refuse to identify with the lesser 'world' and awaken to your true origin in the I AM.

Practice This Now

Close your eyes, rest your hand on your chest, and softly declare: I AM; I am the awareness behind all I call mine. Now revise: I am from above, not from beneath, and feel the reality of that truth as a steady, vivid sensation in your body.
